Starknet refers to an L2 smart contract platform designed for decentralized applications on the Ethereum network. Established by StarkWare and introduced in 2021.Starknet aggregates users' transactions and forwards them to the Ethereum network, compensating Ethereum validators with a portion of the transaction fees (producer-side fees).The StarkWare team and investors are responsible for owning and overseeing the protocol. Presently, they operate the sole sequencer and receive a portion of the overall transaction fees paid by users (revenue). StarkWare's investors encompass Sequoia Capital, Founders Fund, Pantera Capital, among others.
